Conference Content

The 1st Annual Advanced Topics for Oncology Pharmacy Professionals (ATOPP) Summit is a unique stand-alone conference designed to address expressed educational and networking gaps of pharmacy professionals who function in a myriad of roles and their associated colleagues who have been influencing the care of cancer patients for an extended time beyond their terminal training program. The ATOPP Summit will apply modern instructional methods to go beyond the transfer of clinical data by integrating other key elements driving therapeutic decisions in healthcare, such as formulary management, reimbursement, and outcomes-based assessments. Thus, the ATOPP Summit will convene a diverse audience of seasoned pharmacy professionals sharing one common goal — to provide cancer patients with today’s most innovative therapies while ensuring efficacy, safety, quality of care, and financial viability.
“Who trains the trainer?” This question is being voiced louder than ever by seasoned pharmacy professionals who are busy blazing the path for the next generation of pharmacists and cancer care. Providing an educational and networking forum that combines traditional and nontraditional educational designs/methods to equip seasoned practitioners is needed. Furthermore, cancer care continues to evolve at a rapid pace, necessitating healthcare providers and their administrative colleagues remain current with the development, application, and fiscal management of these innovative therapies. Such therapies are complex and require practitioners with extensive experience throughout the cancer care continuum to continually share their insights and best practices.
ATOPP will meet the needs of a growing number of seasoned oncology professionals whose educational and networking needs are not being met by other organizations/associations. At the same time, the Summit will provide a forum to those focused on specialty care (ie, pediatrics, geriatrics, etc.) and who hold nontraditional, yet influential roles in oncology (eg, GPOs, payers, pharmaceutical and medical device industries, etc.) that cannot be found at other conferences. This will be the meeting where established and influential members of our diverse pharmacy community will come together to educate one another and collaborate on addressing today’s therapeutic challenges to better impact tomorrow’s healthcare delivery.
The ATOPP Summit will be one of a kind. While several excellent conferences are offered for healthcare professionals providing care to cancer patients (eg, ASCO Annual Meeting, ONS Congress, JADPRO Live, ACCC National Oncology Conference, HOPA), a conference and networking forum that collectively targets seasoned pharmacy professionals involved in the clinical and business aspects of cancer care does not currently exist. Furthermore, the Summit hopes to bring together pharmacy professionals practicing in traditional roles (eg, administration, clinical, research roles), those working with special population subsets (eg, pediatrics, geriatrics), and those working in nontraditional roles (eg, those working for industry, GPOs, payers) to ensure viewpoints are represented across the entire spectrum of healthcare.
The Summit fulfills this unmet need by recognizing the value of our pharmacy colleagues in the various roles occupied and giving them a voice in blazing trails for younger generations. Traditional lecture-style presentations will be complemented by unique instructional methods and formats unlike traditional programming. And, by bringing together nationally renowned and seasoned pharmacists as well as business and industry thought leaders, the 1st Annual ATOPP Summit will simultaneously provide all participants with intimate access to influencers and decision-makers within the clinical practice and business realms of cancer care. This forum will be THE place for meaningful interactive exchange among various oncology provider thought-leaders, members of pharmacy C-suites, industry representatives, and stakeholder professional groups.
The primary target audience for the 1st Annual ATOPP Summit is experienced oncology pharmacists possessing a well-developed understanding of the research milestones, clinical management, and business of cancer. Wider audiences include physicians and advanced practice providers, supportive care services specialists (eg, social workers, case managers), administrative representatives (eg, reimbursement specialists, financial counselors, practice managers), pharmaceutical and medical device industry professionals, and representatives from healthcare professional associations, patient advocacy groups, government agencies, and the healthcare insurance industry
The ATOPP Summit will provide pharmacy professionals and their allied colleagues a one-of-a-kind meeting experience. The ATOPP Summit will set the stage for pharmacy professionals in various roles to work together to develop a strategy that will ensure cancer patients will continue to get the best pharmaceutical care possible, but also ensure that the roles and influences of pharmacists will continue to be valued and sought after in the centuries ahead. To accomplish this, we must draw the best of the best and provide a forum that first meets their educational needs, helps them to expand the horizons of their contemporaries, and develop networks and groups that are qualified and capable of creating and executing strategy.
Organized with two tracks (clinical/research and business/practice administration), the Summit will facilitate the presentation of topical data on advances in cancer treatments from all aspects of delivery – research, clinical care, and practice management – while providing attendees unique opportunities to network with their peers and external stakeholders. Not limited to healthcare providers for general oncology patients, this meeting also will engage those caring for specialty populations (eg, pediatrics, geriatrics, cellular therapies recipients, etc.) as well as professionals working outside of healthcare facilities (eg, GPOs, industry, payers, etc.). Through networking sessions, we expect participants to leave the meeting with the most current data and practice standards related to cancer care as well as ideas for clinical, financial, quality, and other research initiatives and collaborative projects.
Yes. CE Synergy, LLC is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. For the 1st Annual ATOPP Summit, CE Synergy will assign up to 16.0 contact hours (1.60 CEUs) of continuing pharmacy education credit for this knowledge- and application-based activity. The target audience for this accredited activity is advanced oncology/hematology pharmacists.
This event is being organized as an independent event because the goals/aims of the ATOPP Summit are to ensure the influence and value of oncology pharmacy grows exponentially and becomes more essential to cancer care around the nation/globe. The goals/aims of other organizations are more global and diverse, whereas our goals/aims are more focused. As its name suggests, the ATOPP Summit offers an exclusive focus on higher-level research, clinical, and administrative topics impacting professionals across diverse roles in oncology pharmacy and their associated colleagues along with a commitment to an unsurpassed quality of execution. While several professional societies offer valuable programs on a variety of oncology pharmacy topics, there is no existing program that precisely combines the distinctive attributes of the ATOPP Summit in a single, multi-day event.
Planning for the Inaugural ATOPP Summit is led by a group of diverse renowned oncology pharmacists experienced with facilitating collaborative initiatives and delivering timely, high-quality education. Please visit the ATOPP Summit website (www.atoppsummit.com) to learn more about the members of the Steering and other committees. Operational management for the 1st Annual ATOPP Summit is provided through CE Synergy, LLC of Atlanta, GA.
The ATOPP Summit is a stand-alone conference to be held annually and is not a new association/organization.
Please contact Terri Davidson (tdavidson@cesynergy.com) or Susannah Koontz (susannahrx@gmail.com) to inquire about ways to participate.
